How to detect a deadlock using Performance Analysis for SQL Server?
Performance Analysis (PA) is not aware of deadlocks. You will be able to see deadlocks in PA by observing the lock tree and identify the objects/sessions involved and understand from the tree if this is a deadlock or a regular lock.
Performance Analysis does not retain the SPID for historical analysis for a number of reasons. That said, the blocking lock information available in the historical views shows which User/Machine/Program is blocking the current element (table, user, batch, etc) selected, and how long the object has been blocked.
To view the lock, inPA GUI, click on History and change the Resource to Lock and edit the Time Range.
