"An internal issue has occurred" trying to install a collector on Oracle RAC (4309262)

Trying to install collector agent on node 1 of 3 node RAC (Oracle 11.2.0.2 on Solaris SPARC v9) produces error "An internal issue has occurred". The installer.log contains the following exception...

Permissions issue - the problem was due to role separation new in Oracle 11.2 RAC (Grid Infrastructure with Role Separation) - the instance is owned by “oracle” user for which there is the dba group - the gird infrastructure, clusterware and asm, is owned by the “grid” user for which there is an additional group typically called asmadmin. However, the OS user installing the collector agent was a member of the dba group only (not a member of the asmadmin group).
