DirSync: How to Modify the Job Concurrency Setting for the DirSync Agent (4383531)

This article describes how to modify the Job Concurrency setting on the On Demand Migration (ODM) DirSync Agent.

NOTE: When the Automatic option is enabled, the agent calculates an appropriate thread count based on the number of available CPU cores. This is the recommended setting for most environments. Manual configuration is useful when you need to limit resource consumption or tune performance for a specific workload.

Job Concurrency controls the number of threads the agent uses to process migration jobs in parallel, which directly affects migration throughput and server resource utilization.

The Job Concurrency setting is configured through the DirSync Agent installer as a registry DWORD value named JobConcurrency. It can be set to Automatic (agent-determined) or Manual (fixed thread count, up to a maximum of 20). 

Follow the steps below to modify this setting on an existing agent:

• STEP 1 - Run the DirSync Agent Installer, and select the Agent you want to modify

• STEP 2 - Leave the Registration Key Field Empty. 

• STEP 3 - Uncheck the Automatic Checkbox

• STEP 4 – Set the Thread Count
  • Enter the desired number of threads. Keep the following guidelines in mind:
    • The recommended baseline is 1 thread per virtual processor on the server.
    • The maximum allowable value is 20 threads.
    • Setting the value too high on an under-resourced server may degrade performance rather than improve it.

• • • Complete the installer wizard to apply the changes. The new JobConcurrency DWORD value will be written to the registry and will take effect when the agent next processes jobs.
