License consumption in ODM AD (4379129)

On Demand Migration for Active Directory (ODM AD) requires a license for every migrated user account in a T5, T7, or ODM AD standalone subscription.

A license is consumed when a user is synced in a Directory Sync workflow. If there are no available licenses, additional users will not be synced. License consumption is tied to the unique source user object.

• If you configure multiple workflows to sync a single source user to multiple targets, only one license will be consumed.
• If you configure a bi-directional sync between a source user and matched target user, only one license will be consumed.
• If you configure multiple workflows to sync different source users to a single target user, a license will be consumed for each unique source user.

ODM AD consumes licenses for the following objects:

• Non-mail enabled users
• Mail enabled users
• Mailbox enabled users

ODM AD does not consume licenses for the following objects:

• Shared Mailboxes*
• Room Mailboxes*
• Resource Mailboxes*
• Equipment Mailboxes*
• Guest Accounts
• Contact Objects
• Groups
• Devices

* AD accounts for shared/room/resource/equipment mailboxes must have their Exchange attributes configured for ODM AD to correctly identify them, specifically msExchRecipientTypeDetails and msExchRecipientDisplayType.  If these attribute values are missing or incorrect, ODM AD will treat the accounts as migrated users and will consume a license.

To ensure ODM AD does not consume licenses for AD accounts that are used for shared/room/resource/equipment mailboxes, review the below attributes on the AD accounts and update them if they are missing or incorrect.

Set msExchRecipientTypeDetails to the following values:

• Shared Mailbox: 4
• Remote Shared Mailbox: 34359738368
• Room Mailbox: 16
• Equipment Mailbox: 32

Set msExchRecipientDisplayType to the following values:

• Synced Conference Room Mailbox: -2147481850
• Synced Equipment Mailbox: -2147481594
• Conference Room Mailbox: 7
• Equipment Mailbox: 8
