Reprovisioning Teams for Newly Created Private Channels Post-Migration (4377391)

After migrating teams, private channels may be created post-provisioning, resulting in a need to sync these new channels to the already migrated teams. The challenge lies in ensuring only the newly added channels are provisioned, avoiding duplication or interference with existing team data.

When private channels are added after the initial team provision task, they are not automatically migrated. Running the provisioning process again requires selective settings to ensure that only these new channels are added without affecting the content and settings of previously migrated teams.

To provision only the new private channels and avoid affecting the existing team structure, follow these steps:

1. Reprovision the Team with New Private Channels:

   • Identify the team containing the newly created private channels and select it for reprovisioning.

2. Merge to the Existing Team on Target:

   • In the provisioning task wizard, choose the option to merge the source team with the existing one on the target. This ensures the new private channels are added to the existing team without duplicating or overwriting content.

3. Channel Handling:

   • Since the new private channels do not yet exist on the target, they will be added as part of the reprovisioning process.
   • Avoid selecting the option to “Provision a new channel on the target with the original name plus suffix,” as this can create duplicate channels unnecessarily.

4. Optional Settings:

   • Merge Source Channel Conversations with the Target Channel: Use this only if the target channel is empty. This setting allows conversations from the source to merge with the target without overwriting existing content.
   • Suppress Group Welcome Message: Enable this option to prevent notifications from being sent to users during the reprovisioning, avoiding potential confusion.
