The direct download option was discontinued with the 2.x agent.
This change was primarily due to the 2.x agent’s strong dependency on a service (display name: On Demand Desktop Update Agent Licensing), which requires elevated permissions to install. In contrast, the direct download version operated without this service and could be installed without requiring enhanced permissions.
