How to manually map and migrate a Microsoft Team/SharePoint SiteTeam/Sharepoint site (4369109)

ODM semi-automated Team migration may not work when you need to link a source Team’s SharePoint site to a specific target Team SharePoint site.

ODM’s default process creates a new SharePoint site during migration, which may not align with custom mapping requirements.

Follow these steps to prepare and migrate manually:

1. Clean Up Target Environment

• In the target tenant Admin Center, check the SharePoint URL linked to the target Team (e.g., TeamX).
• Delete the target Team (TeamX).
• In SharePoint Admin Center, confirm the TeamX site is removed from Active Sites and Deleted Sites.
  • If the site remains in Deleted Sites, purge it.
  • If purge fails, use PowerShell to delete the site.
    (Reference: SP sites with Teams that cannot be deleted from the recycle bin – Quest KB 4256777)

2. Prepare ODM

• In ODM UI, remove TeamX from the target tenant.
• Rediscover the source SharePoint site:
  • Use the SharePoint module to run discovery for the entire tenant or specific site via CSV.
• Rediscover the source Team:
  • Use the Teams module to run discovery for the entire tenant or a specific Team via CSV.

3. Map Source to Target

• In SharePoint module, map the source TeamX to the target TeamX using CSV.
  • Enter the modified target SharePoint URL if needed.
• In the Teams module, map source TeamX to target TeamX using CSV.

4. Provision and Migrate

• In Teams module, run the provisioning task for TeamX with the Merge option.
  • This creates the structure in the target tenant.
  • Ensure no errors occur.
• Once provisioning completes, migrate TeamX.
  • Verify SharePoint content migration.
  • If content is missing, drill down to the List level in SharePoint and migrate lists individually, ensuring the correct target URL.
