Description:
This article shows how to terminate a hanging job that won't abort, without having to restart the NetVault services.
Symptoms:
Under very rare circumstances, a job would appear to hang and never finish.
In NetVault Job Management, the job would show as 'running' or 'writing' while no transfer can be recorded.
In fact the job is not even registered in the NetVault Scheduler as several attempts to abort will fail with:
"No such active job".
Although there could be several reasons for that, the immediate cause is that one or more processes have hung,
crashed or died uncleanly.
If right clicking on the job and selecting 'Abort' doesn't help, restarting the NetVault services would fix this issue.
This would kill the corresponding Job Manager process which will in turn cause all related processes to die.
However, this isn't always possible especially in a production environment.
