The password that is used during the configuration of the Exchange APM is encrypted for network transfer.
Passwords internal to Quest NVBU Plug-ins are encrypted based on an internal algorithm of Quest Netvault Backup core and a string key that is passed to the encryption algorithm by the plug-in requesting an encrypted password. There are two models, one for 32-bit security, and another for 64-bit security depending on the version of NetVault installed.
