ASC 00 ASCQ 17 indicates cleaning requested. You can usually resolve these errors by using a cleaning tape in the drive.
When tape drives are backwards compatible with older versions of tapes, sometimes using those older tapes in the drive, can cause the drive to become dirty much faster than with their native tapes.
