There may be a need to migrate the NetVault server to a new server and/or hardware, this may also require changing the name of the NV Server as well.
Prerequisites
The other server must have the same type of OS (i.e. Windows, Linux, etc…)
The other server must have the same version of NetVault installed.
There may be a need to migrate the NetVault server to a new server and/or hardware, this may also require changing the name of the NV Server as well.
Please adhere to the following prerequisites before starting the procedure:
The intended server MUST run on the same Operating System as it did previously. If the NV Server ran on Windows, it will need to remain on Windows. If you plan on migrating the NV Server off to a alternate OS. Please contact support if this will be an issue.
Install the same version of NetVault as was on the original server. You may upgrade if desired after migration is complete.
(Also, please note this migration procedure is designed around backup to Tape devices. If you are moving the NV Server which also was running SmartDisk or another RAS device, or Virtual Tape Library, please contact support.)
Main Procedure
1. Perform a NetVault Database Backup of the original server to Tape, VTL or RAS Device
2a. If you have a Tape Library or a tape drive, add it to the new server, place the tape with the NetVault database backup in it and scan the tape in.
2b. If you are using NetVault SmartDisk, VTL or a RAS Device such as a DR Series Appliance or Data Domain, please contact support.
3. Restore the NetVault Database (NVDB) to the new server. Exclude restoring KEYS and CONFIGURATION from this process.
After the restore is complete you will need to re-add your devices, and configure the Target Tab of your jobs to write to the new name the library was given, unless you give it the same name in NetVault.
