Description: How to set up a large NetVault install to work through a firewall
NetVault will only work with/through a firewall if the specific port range configured within the firewall is specified in the NetVault configurator.
1. NetVault does need to communicate bi-directional.
2. To configure NetVault to communicate through a specific port range
A. Open nvconfigurator
B. Click on the "Firewall" tab
3. In the Firewall tab put 20031-21031 in all fields
4. Apply the changes
5. Stop then restart the NetVault services
At this point NetVault will communicate on port range 20031-21031 exclusively. Open this port range on the firewall for both TCP and UDP.
Open this port range on the firewall for both TCP and UDP.
These settings need to be applied to the NetVault server and all clients going through the firewall as well as others that are not going thru the firewall.
In other words, all clients need to now have that port range applied to the Firewall tab configuration. Why? Because all machines are now directed thru a range of ports to access the Netvault Server.
Depending on the number of simultaneous jobs this range many need to be expanded the port range.
Please see the NetVault Configurator Guide for further details.
