After upgrading from 8.5.3 to 8.6.1 Netvault version. Novell incremental backups are the same size as my Full backups. Prior to the upgrade, my Novell incrementals were performing as expected. After the upgrade, othWindows/Linux/Unix/Oracle etc incrementals work fine. However, Novell (thin client) Plugin do not perform as before.
Thin Client Support 5.0.0 ID 1029000
Netware 6.5 SP8
Steps to reproduce the problem:
Create a backup -> select my server -> select Thin Client Support -> Select my Novell server -> Select all volumes
Tab to Backup options -> Backup Type Full
Tab back to Selections and 'Save As' new Selection Set. (Novell)
Submit Job, allow it to complete.
CLOSE WINDOW
Create a new Inc. backup -> Load Selection Set (Novell)
Tab to Backup Options -> Select Incremental -> (Either Incremental Type -> Changed since last backup, Changed since last Full )
Submitted Job.
CLOSED WINDOW
Backup runs and backs up all items.
We have a fault created for this issue; (#NNG-56) that is with the Netvault 8.6.1 Build itself and how it ineracts with the Netware Thin Client APM.
In the 8.6.1 Netvault version the index layout is different from previous Netvault versions. The NetWare NLM is no longer able to process the index and determine which files to backup during and incremetal; it therefore backs up all files.
The way the NetWare NLM works is that it looks at the previous index itself and decides what to backup. Within 8.6.1 the form of the index has changed and is not decodable by the Netvault NLM.
The current workaround is to have customers roll back to the previous 8.5.3 version and continue on with this.
The problem can also be resolved by upgrading to Netvault 8.63 and recent version of the Thin client (4.x or 7.x).
