Description: A backup starts writing to a tape, spans to another and fails. How can you recover the space used on the first tape?
Symptoms: Tapes indicate 100% used, but the savesets listed do not account for the total of space used on the tape.
When a job writes to tape, but then fails, NetVault basically acknowledges that something is on the tape but we don't have any info about it in the Media db so it ignores it. It is left there as unusable space. The only way to recover it would be to blank it or mark the tape for reuse.
The space on the tapes would not be useable until the whole tape is eligible for reuse (by retirement/expiration, blanking or marking for reuse).
But that could mean potentially losing the valid data on the tape as well. If there are valid savesets on the tape that needs to be blanked to recover the space, then those savesets would need to be DataCopied to another tape.
