Description:
Instructions for running a media report when all jobs are "Waiting for Media".
Symptoms:
In some circumstances in NetVault it is possible for all the current jobs to be stuck in "waiting for media", usually when there are insufficient tapes available for the current backup cycle. When this happens it can be beneficial to run a media report to see what tapes are currently in use.
Running a media report when the maximum number of concurrent jobs is already running will result in the report job being placed in a state of "pending". To work around this the following steps must be taken:
1) Edit the report job and on the "schedule tab" job options, set the priority of this job to "1".
2) Submit the job and at this point the report job will still sit in a "pending" state. This is because all the available job process "slots" are in use by jobs that have already started.
3) Select a single currently running job and abort it. This will allow the report job to then run.
Discussion.
The maximum number of concurrent jobs that can be run is set on the configurator "schedule manager" tab. Once all these job "slots" are busy processing jobs, they are not released until the jobs are completed. So submitting a job with a higher priority will not work unless one of the job process "slots" has been freed up.
