An issue has been identified with the NetVault Backup 8.5.x binary. When performing backup which spans 3 tapes or more, backup job will complete without warning and the backed up data may lack some blocks at beginning of 3rd and following tapes.
Condition and environments affected:
- NetVault Backup 8.5.0-8.5.3 builds prior to May 19, 2011
- A backup spans 3 or more media
- A backup runs NetVault Server or Smart Client which has the device to be backed up and plugins. No network backup affected.
- All plugins except NDMP and BMR Offline
- Real tape device and VTL/SVTL which has EOM(End Of Media) concept. Not affecting NetVault SmartDisk
If you try to restore a backup, you will receive a “Error reading from media” error message and be unable to perform a restore.
This issue is resolved in NVBU 8.5.3 (R2011MAY19-HALO) and all 8.6.x builds. Please upgrade to either the latest 8.5.3 build or the latest NVBU version currently availalble.
