Exchange backup hangs on job waiting for media - media diagnose says Media xyz is a valid combina (4042685)

Exchange backup writes to a tape, request another media without fully using the first media although there is plenty of space on the tape. If no other tape is available the job will hang on "waiting for media". A media diagnose reveals the first media cannot be used because it is "a valid combination that is not currently available"

Exchange backup , like Oracle APM backup is multi streams (4) backup that concurrently backs up to multiple tapes at the same time. So it writes, a db to a tape, the transaction logs to another etc..

For this to happen multiple tapes must be availble.

If multiple tapes are not availables to take advantage of the multi streams then we must "Allow Streams to share media". It is done in the Advanced option of the backup job.

This way all streams can be written to available tape.
