"CLEANING MEDIA: Exhausted" error message would appear on tape library drive 1 and then sometimes on drive 2, even though there was no cleaning media within the tape library.
We checked the NetVault Device Management - Configuration - Drive serial numbers against the tape library web interface and found out that the drives were added to NetVault in the wrong order.
We then amended and saved the drive configurations.
Now the "CLEANING MEDIA: Exhausted" error message has gone.
Note: If you are going to use cleaning media, make sure that SOL78529 KBA (How to configure Supported Libraries to use cleaning media) has been setup within NetVault.
Also check the VTL Library Drive Comaptibility Guide that can be found on the www.quest.com website, in order to verify if the tape library uses standard or generic cleaning.
