After upgrading to NetVault Backup 12.X, labeling blank tapes causes them to become Foreign or Bad -
Description
When a job tries to use a blank tape and labels it or if a tape is manually labeled, the tape immediately becomes foreign. If a job was labeling the tape, it might also become BAD.
In the logs will show that the header was written to the tape, but the next log message refers to the tape as FOREIGN.

Cause
Foreign means that it recognizes that the tape has a NetVault Backup label on it, but does not have a record of this tape in the Media Database. Development is investigating the cause under NVBU-18131. -
Resolution
Workaround: Scanning a tape twice may allow the tape to be used,
NVBU-18131 was resolved in NetVault Backup 12.1. Upgrade to NetVault Backup 12.1 or greater.
