There may be occasions when we it is required to know how much data has been written to the target DR device during duplication over a given time when looking the network between the two DR’s. When duplicating between two DR’s with NetVault there is inline deduplication this means reported data transferred by NetVault will be the full backup size but the data sent in most cases is considerably less. To check the size and transfer rate of this data we can use the following procedure. This procedure can be applied to outgoing data on the source DR or incoming date on the target DR.
Under dashboard go select usage, select network tab and then look at the bond0 or network interface the data is written over and look at data in. From there you can adjust the chart and pick the timelines you are interested in. we can look at any MB/s and then calculate out the number of seconds to get an idea of how much data is it transferring in that timeline.
For example, if you wanted to know how much data was transferred last night from 8pm to 8am for bond0 you would setup the chart to show only 8pm to 8am then you would look at average “in” bytes for bond0. Say it said 50MB/s for the 12 hour period. 12 hours is 60*60*12 or 43,200 seconds. That would equate to 43,200*50MB/s or 2,160,000 or better stated 2.05 TB would have been written during that period.
