When the VMware plugin is running backups it is observed that when the backups have completed there are files with an .rec extension as seen below.
vmwVolumesxxxx-xx.rec
vmwVMComponentsxxxx-xx.rec
These files are index files from the individual VM’s that we backup. These files are the used to create the backup index that includes the indexes from all VM’s in the backup. So these files will not be removed until the VMware backup is complete. At this point these files should be deleted from the directory automatically by NetVault. To verify that this problem exists all VMware backups must be completed and no VMware jobs running on the NetVault server. At this point none of these files should be in this directory.
If we are seeing these files in this directory move the VMware temporary directory outside of the NetVault installation directory. If possible move to a different drive with more free space than the default install directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest\NetVault Backup but if there is only a c:\ drive locate the temp directory C:\ NetVaultVmwareTmp.
1/ to implement this create the new tmp directory
2/ open the VMware client using create backup, select the VMware plugin, select configure from drop down, and put new directory location into option “Working Directory”
