Title

Windows will not boot after BMR restore to alternate server.
Description

After successfully performing a Bare Metal Recovery restore of a Windows system to an alternate server, the new server fails to boot.
Shortly after displaying the Windows logo, the machine blue screens, and if configured too, automatically attempts a reboot. The blue screen error is "STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE"
Cause

The new server's motherboard BIOS has a different HardDisk setting. Windows does not have the appropriate drivers for the new setting, and is not configured to allow reactive loading of the new drivers.
Resolution

Enter the new server's BIOS, check the hard disk mode and compare to the original server. There are multiple settings depending on the motherboard, from RAID, AHCI or IDE. Ensure that this is the same as the original server and reboot.
Additional Information

It is also possible to modify registry settings to enable Windows to re-actively load the appropriate drivers when the disk mode changes. Quest Software Support does not recommend making registry changes.
