Pinging indicates that there is a communication path between the NetVault Server/Clients and the storage device. However, one of the following conditions happen:
Network setting on client was not able to send the data in jumbo packets to DR appliance, or there is a mismatch on the maximum transmission unit (MTU) setting on one or more networking devices along the communication path between the source and target devices. Network devices along the path can drop packages that MTU exceed their configured values. Communication might proceed using a different path that will withstand the MTU value.
Greater MTU values allow larger payload transferred per packet which will reduce overhead and increase network efficiency when dropped packages are minimum. Common MTU value setting are 1500 (which is the largest possible when using standard Ethernet) and 9000 (jumbo packages used by Gigabit Ethernet). However, transmission might be impossible if the networking devices along the communication path are configured to handle different MTU values. Determine the MTU values among the devices; use the user manual included with the apparatus or operating system. Backup will succeed after setting the same MTU setting on all devices along the communication path.
