When adding FC attached SL500 library we see warning message Library Geometry Unavailable
Description

When attaching FC attached SL500 library using the add library option a “Library Geometry Unavailable” warning popup appears.
Library was setup with multiple paths which is not supported with netvault. Path was reduced to 1 path but the “Library Geometry Unavailable” warning popup still appears.

We verified that the tape library magazines that contain the tapes were inserted in the library

Using Linux mtx commands we proved that the library was not responding to inventory or status commands as seen below:

# mtx -f /dev/sg334 inventory
mtx:inventory failed

# mtx -f /dev/sg334 status
mtx: Request Sense: 70 00 02 00 00 00 00 0C 00 00 00 00 04 0C 00 00 00 00 00 00
READ ELEMENT STATUS Command Failed
Cause

Library or FC path has a hardware or configuration problem which stopping the commands from netvault from receiving a valid SCSI response.
Resolution

Check library, FC hardware and FC zoning.
On this occasion the problem was resolved by zoning the library to the second FC channel on the FC HBA. Which indicated that the FC channel had a hardware fault.
