Installed NVBU 9.0.1 a couple of times as couldn’t start NetVault.
Installing the license key also causes a “Segmentation fault” error message on the command line.
NVBU 9.0.1 was not uninstalled before re-installing the software again.
Re-installing NVBU 9.0.1 caused errors like:
Failed to install '/usr/netvault/packages/rpt-1-4-0-27.npk'
Failed to write to temporary file. Check there is free disk space
But there is 59GB free space on the partition where NetVault is installed on.
We could also see the following error from a debug.txt file from line 306:
stat64("/usr/netvault/locale/English/locale.ctl", 0xffdbec80) = -1 ENOENT (No such file or directory).
Performed the following steps to resolve installing NVBU 9.0.1 on your CentOS 6.3 Server:
1] Uninstalled current NVBU installation as per section 10.1.0 of the NVBU Installation Upgrade Guide on the following link under the Documentation tab:
https://support.quest.com/NetVault Backup
2] Downloaded a fresh copy of 9.0.1 under a created nv-downloads/nvbu901 folder and unzipped it there whilst logged in as root.
3] Made sure that the pre-requisites from section 3.2.1 (ulimit part and openmotif part) of the NVBU Installation Upgrade Guide, as well as installing all xfonts*.
4] Installed the NVBU 9.0.1 Hybrid version as per sections 4.3.0 and 4.4.0 of the NVBU Installation Upgrade Guide. We used the Hybrid version, as that version was used on the old NVBU Server. You cannot install a Pure64 Linux version of NVBU and use the NVDB of a Hybrid version, unless you wish to start from fresh.
The NVBU 9.0.1 installation was now successful.
Added the tape library where the NVDB backup was performed on, scanned the NVDB tape and performed a NVDB restore, as the same NetVault version AND NetVault Name was used in this installation.
Once the NVDB is restored, I would advise to remove and re-add the tape library in again, as the new Server now has a new communication channel. This will stop device issues appearing in NetVault Device Management.
Also check if the MachineID in the Configurator – Machine tab has changed, as you will need to migrate the NetVault Server and any additional Plugin licenses if the MachineID has changed. If not, then all is OK.
Unfortunately here in Support we don’t handle license keys anymore and we now have a separate License Department.
You can now manage your license keys yourself by logging on to the following link and enter the email address that is logged against the NetVault Server license and the Serial Number/NetVault Server License Number:
http://license.quest.com/machineid/reset
Once logged in, just click on the current NetVault Server Machine ID and the window will change, so that you can enter the new Machine ID.
Once submitted, you will eventually see the window change and it will now list the new Machine ID.
Then an email will be sent with the new license key.
If you have any further questions/issues about licensing, then you will need to contact the License Department directly on:
