If you notice a “User 'default' requested media '050031L' be blanked” message entered in the NetVault logs and reports, then a user has manually right clicked on a media and selected Blank. In this case it was the ‘default’ user.
If a media was manually blanked and you have many users logging into NetVault with the same user i.e. ‘default’, then there is no way of knowing who has blanked the media (especially if someone has blanked media by mistake and therefore would have lost all the data on that media too).
The best way to safeguard your media from being blanked and to audit anyone who has blanked your media, would be to make sure that each user that uses NetVault Backup has their own NetVault access and has a password as well. This way if a user has blanked a media then the ‘default’ name will change to the relevant user’s name:
“User 'Fred' requested media '050031L' be blanked”
