VMware restore fails and binary log shows error “Failed to determine target server for the restore”

Cause
Restore target path is different to the original backup path

Resolution
If you have more that one client using the VMware plugin backing up the same ESX server or vCenter server add these server with exactly the same server name. If this is not done when restoring through a different server to which the backup was taken the restore will fail with server not found because the restore path will be different.
WORKAROUND
Add the vCenter server or ESX server server to the plugin with the exact same name as seen in the restore window.
Note: do not remove and re-add the vCenter server or ESX server server from the VMware plugin you are trying to restore from or all jobs that currently run using this configuration will no longer run. If you do wish to have the plugins uniform all jobs to the vCenter server or ESX server server will need to be modified.
