NBD transport limit is misdocumented as 1TB.
The Virtual Disk API Programming Guide says on page 23 that there is a 1TB limit for LAN transport. This was true of VCB, but as of vSphere 4.0, NBD transport size is limited only by the underlying file systems.

Resolution
VMware Plug-inはVMware社から提供されているVDDKの仕様に準拠しています。弊社ドキュメントに制限事項として、1TBを超えるLAN転送モードは、サポートしていないことを記述しておりましたが、VMware社のドキュメントの記載ミスがありました。そのためVMware Plug-in 2.5以降は、LAN転送モードに1TBの制限はありません。弊社ドキュメントに関しましても、今後修正予定です。
