This is an identified bug (24265) within the VMware plugin. It has been noted that virtual machines that have been created then renamed within vSphere at a later date can have this issue.
Virtual Machines that consist of multiple virtual disks distributed across many datastores have also been identified as an issue with this bug.
Bug 24265 was resolved in VMware plugin version 2.7. Upgrade to the 2.7 release to resolve this issue.
Using VMware plugin 2.6, the only workaround is to use the 'Restore Files from Backup' option to restore the VM to a local disk, and from there vSphere can be used to add VM back into the inventory.
