Current NetVault environment after upgrading the NetVault Server from 8.6.3, NDMP 7.6.7 and SMTT 7.6.103 Plugins, as wasn’t supported to work with NetApp Filer with OnTap 8.1.3P2 7-Mode:
NetVault Server: 9.2 Windows 2008 R2 64Bit with NDMP 7.6.11, NDMP 5.7.3 Patch & SMTT 7.6.116 Plugins installed.
NetApp Filer OnTap OS version: 8.1.3P2 7-Mode
Overland NEO Series tape library with two HP Storage Works LTO-4 Ultrium drives.
Drives set to have a Media Block Size (MBS) of 240, in order that you can backup with SMTT.
SMTT: SnapMirror to Tape
Unfortunately the diagnostics didn’t show why the SMTT existing backup partly writes data on one tape and then moves to another when the previous media wasn’t full.
Checked the SMTT backup Target Options and there is no tick against the “Ensure this backup is the first on the media” function, so again the backup shouldn’t write a bit on one tape and then write on another tape when the first tape isn’t full.
Checked the Backup Options of that problem SMTT backup and noticed that it only has two options i.e. from an older version of the SMTT Plugin (see attached screenshot) and not the many options as per the latest SMTT 7.1.116 Plugin (see attached screenshot).
To resolve the issue, modify the job Selection Set first and drilled all the way down to the selections (so that a new connection path is used for the new SMTT 7.6.116 Plugin). Then check the Backup Options tab and now the many backup options for the SMTT 7.6.116 Plugin will be displayed.
Click on the traffic light icon to save and schedule the job.
