Under NetVault 9.x, when consolidations job are set up with a "Media request timeout", and the jobs fail due to the media request expiring, the job status is erroneously recorded as "Backup Completed"
Example:
Warning 2013/12/07 08:02:29 2164 Media BS01 No suitable device for job 2164 (instance 8) - request held in queue
SevereError 2013/12/07 08:47:03 2164 Jobs BS01 Media Request Failed: Media request no suitable drive
Job Message 2013/12/07 08:47:03 2164 Jobs BS01 Job Status: Backup Completed
If Phase 2 Duplications are configured for these consolidation jobs, the erroneous job status after failure, will lead to the duplication jobs to start and inevitably fail because there is nothing to copy.
This fault is present in 9.2 and the versions below. It will be addressed in future versions of NetVault Backup 10 and above.
In the meantime, steps can be taken to reduce the occurrence of the fault:
- Increase the number of targeted drives/media or SmartDisk streams so we reduce "Waiting for media" occurrences
- Try changing schedules so not too many jobs target the same devices at the same time
- remove the media request timeout parameter from all consolidation jobs until the fault is fixed.
