Description
Oracle backups of "User Manged" type will generate log switch failure when the database is mounted, but not open. The error message is:
Failed to switch log file

Cause
A Database that is mounted but not open cannot perform a log switch. This is not possible in Oracle. -
Resolution
If a database is mounted but not open, then perform an RMAN type backup of the database.
