Cannot browse Exchange Virtual Client or edit any of its Selection Sets - Failed to get connection to the plugin -
Description
While attempting to expand an Exchange Virtual Client to browse its databases, the Web UI hangs for 2 minutes then returns pop up error messages similar to these:
"Failed to get connection to the plugin" or "Error: The remote machine: xxx is unavailable".
Similar errors are returned when trying to edit existing Selection Sets for this Exchange Virtual Client.
The correct licensing is in place and the client nodes Check Access and Firewall Check test pass successfully.
Trace from the NVBU server side shows "Failed to receive a reply message from plugin" -
Cause
The issue has 2 root causes.1) Web UI timeout:The error message "Failed to receive a reply message from plugin" indicates that the Web UI has timed out waiting to receive a response from the plugin on the Real Client.Currently the timeout value is hard-coded and equal to 2 minutes during which the client plugins must respond back before the operation is cancelled.Bug 28856 has been raised to provide a configurable Web UI timeout.2) The Exchange Server APM PowerShell script take too long to run on some environments:To be able to browse an Exchange Server (standalone or clustered), the Exchange Server APM executes a series of PowerShell scripts locally on the Exchange server to determine environment information such as, Domain, Server name, Exchange version, search and list databases....We have seen that the script used on Exchange Server APM version 10.0.5.3 can take a log time to execute on certain environmentsBug 29956 has been raised to reduce the time to query and search for databases. -
Resolution
If browsing your Virtual Clients produces errors please contact Technical Support for access to Exchange Server APM 10.0.5.5 which includes improved query scripts that reduces the time to search for databases.
The Web UI timeout should be addressed in the upcoming NVBU 11.
