Question:
Can SmartDisk be installed on the NetVault server?
Solution:
If deduplication is to be used then it is not recommended to run SmartDisk on the NetVault server.
Explanation:
The SmartDisk Installation and Upgrade guide says the following about installing SmartDisk;
"Whether the NVSD Instance is enabled for deduplication dictates the available deployment options."
Without deduplication a number of deployment options are listed in the guide, these are;
a) NetVault and SmartDisk on the same server
b) NetVault and SmartDisk on different servers
c) Multiple servers running both NetVault and SmartDisk
d) Multiple NetVault servers using one SmartDisk server
With deduplication the deployment options are;
a) Multiple NetVault servers using one (separate) SmartDisk server
b) Multiple NetVault servers using multiple (separate) SmartDisk servers
There is no option presented to run SmartDisk with deduplication on the NetVault Server. This option is not recommended.
