NDMP backup jobs targeting Smartdisk 2.0.1 will hang indefinitely if the "Enable deduplication" flag has been disabled on the job's Advanced Options tab.
The NDMP filer will send all required data to SmartDisk, close the NDMPD session, but the staged segment in SmartDisk 2.0.1 will remain with a "Status = Staging", leading to the job hanging indefinitely and will have to be aborted losing the backed up data.
An issue has been found in the NDMP/deduplication logic which led to the storageserice process not to update the NDMP segments status from STAGING to STAGED.
This meant, NetVault would remain waiting indefinitely for the segment to close so it can start the indexing phase and complete the job.
WORKAROUND
This is a defect identified in Bug 25254 that only applies to SmartDisk 2.0.1.
This issue only applies to NDMP jobs run without the "Enable deduplication" flag. Any other plugin would not be affected.
Enable deduplication on NDMP jobs if acceptable for your NDMP backup.
STATUS
Upgrade to SmartDisk 2.0.1 Hotfix 1or greater.
