Differential/Incremental MSSQL Restore fails with ODBC Error Number:42000
MsgState=1, Severity=16, Servername=XXXXX, ProcName=, LineNumber=1, Message:[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]This differential backup cannot be restored because the database has not been restored to the correct earlier state.

Cause
Customer might mix Full Backups done with Quest NetVault Backup and done manually. This affect the base for Differential backups. For example, a differential Backup done with Quest NVBU might be looking for base Full Backup - which is done manually and hence fails. -
Resolution
WORKAROUND
Currently we do not track backups done outside of NetVault. If Full backups are being taken from both NetVault and manually outside of NetVault, user will need to apply the correct Full backup before restoring the Differential backup.to better avoid this - we recommend to run MSSQL Backups only from Netvault to avoid such scenario.
STATUSEnhancement request number DNPSS-409 has been submitted to Development for consideration in a future release of (NetVault Plug-in for SQL Server). to add a mechanism to check, when a Differential/incremental Backup, is performed, that the base of the Differential is the Full Backup performed previously by only Quest NVBU.
