Can the NetVault Server be setup within a cluster?
Unfortunately at present this is not possible, as the NetVault Database (NVDB) has to reside on the NetVault Server locally.
You can prepare another machine, making sure that the other machine has the same exact NetVault version installed and that it has the same NetVault Name too.
Then turn the NetVault Process Manager Service on the second NetVault Server to manual and stop it as well, in order that the two NetVault Servers don’t conflict with each other.
So in the event that the main NetVault Server went down, then all you have to do is start the NetVault Service on the second NetVault Server, then connect the tape library where the NVDB backup resides, scan the tape that has the NVDB on it (so that the NVDB is updated) and you’ll be able to see the Saveset in the Restore window.
Then select the NVDB Saveset and items that you want to use in the Restore window. Also select the new NetVault Server under the Target Client tab.
Give the restore job a title and click on the traffic light to save and run the job.
Once restored, the NetVault Services will stop (this is to be expected), so that the data can be restored.
Just re-start the NetVault Services in the NetVault Configurator again.
Once up and running, launch the NetVault Console and you can see all the Clients, jobs etc…
In NetVault Device Manager, you will have to remove all the devices and re-add them in again, as you have restored the connection channels from the devices on the old NetVault Server.
