In Lotus Notes, there are many locations where the end-user’s contacts or Personal Address Books (PABs) could be stored. The inconsistent storage locations of Notes data can create a very challenging environment for the migration administrator. Migrator for Notes to Exchange (MNE) includes options to migrate the Lotus Notes Personal Address Books in most any scenario. Here are the most common locations for Notes Personal Address Books:
PAB is located on end-user workstations – There are four main options to handle this particular scenario:
1. Use native Domino replication, configured outside of MNE, to replicate the users’ Personal Address Book to the iNotes store of their mail file.
2. Use the MNE PAB Replicator, which is a Notes email template, sent to users while they are still using Notes, with a customizable LotusScript-powered button to sync their PAB to the iNotes store of their mail file:
3. Use the MNE PAB Replicator to make a copy of the user’s local Personal Address Book to a central file server location for ease of migration with the MNE Migration Manager admin console.
4. Use the MNE Self-Service Desktop Migrator (SSDM) utility to have the end-users migrate their own Personal Address Books. The SSDM utility can also be configured to run silently via a login script, without end-user intervention:
PAB is located on a file server, home directory or network share – This is where the MNE Locate Notes Data Stores wizard comes into play. The Locate Notes Data Stores wizard will allow you to point MNE to one or more directories or network shares, where it can analyze the Domino Access Control Lists (ACLs) to determine the owner of the data. The data, Personal Address Books in this case, will then be associated with the user within the MNE database, so that it can be selected for migration later. MNE will need to know about any Domino Administrator users or groups that have access to all data, so that they can be excluded from the Domino ACL analysis.
PAB is located in the iNotes store of a user’s primary Notes mail file – This is perhaps the easiest method of migration a user’s Personal Address Book. Modern versions of Notes include an area within the user’s primary Notes mail file for the storage of contacts, called the iNotes store. Domino includes native methods of synchronizing end-user PABs with the iNotes store in their mail file. If this is the case in your environment, then migrating PABs is as simple as selecting a checkbox when going through the MNE Migrate User Data Wizard:
