What is the difference in the PST file formats on the 'Specify PST Output Root Directory' dialog?
There are two output options for PST file formats:
- Use Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders File (.pst): Tells the program to format the .pst files in this format, which supports up to 2GB of data. A new PST file will be created if the 2GB limit is reached.
- Use Office Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst): Tells the program to format the .pst files in this format, which supports up to 20GB of data. This option requires that Outlook 2003 be installed on the migration machine. (The option will appear grayed-out, as an unavailable choice, if Outlook 2003 is not installed.)
The PST file generated by the "Use Office Outlook Personal Folders file (.pst)" option may not work correctly with EXMERGE.EXE. Please use the "Use Outlook 97-2002 Personal Folders File (.pst):" option if planning on using EXMERGE.EXE to import the GroupWise Migrator for Exchange created PST contents to an Exchange Server mailbox.
Please see Microsoft Knowledgebase article titled "How to recover or to restore a single mailbox in Exchange Server 2003" under the section titled "Additional information" for details on why ExMerge utility does not support certain .pst files:
