QMM for Exchange offers a possibility to create and populate collections with mailboxes from an import file. What is the syntax of the import file?
The Import Mailbox Collection Members Wizard can help populate a collection with mailboxes using a text file. An example it mentions is that you can export a list of mailboxes using the Active Directory Users and Computers snap-in. The file should be a simple text file with one entry per line. Entries could be the Alias, Display Name or the Distinguished Name (DN) value.
An import file based on Alias names could look like:
alias1
alias2
alias3
An import file based on DN could look like:
/o=source-org/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=username1
/o=source-org/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=username2
/o=source-org/ou=First Administrative Group/cn=Recipients/cn=username3
To look up the DN of an existing user you can highlight the disabled All Mailboxes collection and view the Distinguished Name in the right side window. Screen shots below demonstrate each step and settings when using the wizard.
Note: Always check the import file to ensure that are no extra characters, trailing spaces or trailing tabs in the import file. Trailing tabs can be produced by an export from another application and will not be noticed. The import will fail without any explanation as to why.
