Mail, Calendar, Public Folder, FreeBusy and Exchange Attendant services may display the status of "unknown" in the Migration Manger console under "Agent Management." The agent cannot be controlled if this is true for a particular agent.
Migration agents are remotely operated from the Migration Manager console by way of a "service" installed onto an agent host. The Migration Manager sends control commands through the service thereby stopping or starting agents. It is possible to have agent files installed onto the agent host, yet not have the "service" install correctly to operate that agent. This may happen for unknown reasons during installation of those agents. The root cause is not known.
The service associated with the agent can be installed or uninstalled at any time. To remove the status of "unknown" from the Migration Manager console the service should be installed.
