Description

A protocol violation error is returned in MAgE logs when connecting to an Exchange 2013 platform. All traditional pre-requisites like name resolution and permissions may be ruled out, but an error similar to the following may be displayed in the MAgE logs:

2015-02-11 16:29:28.1415 Px1568 Tx2C A18 C4 M133 Error Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.ServiceRequestException: The request failed. The server committed a protocol violation. Section=ResponseStatusLine | at Microsoft.Exchange.WebServices.Data.ServiceRequestBase.GetEwsHttpWebResponse(IEwsHttpWebRequest request)
Cause

In this particular scenario, an F5 load balancer was not configured correctly, and did not allow traffic persistently.
Resolution

Consult F5 resources to ensure protocol violations are not being caused by load balancer configuration.
