MAgE Agent Looping with Retrieving Connection String: Waiting for agent settings: Not found

No mail is synchronizing from source to target while using the MAgE (Migration Agent for Exchange) agent.  The log repeats the four lines below:

During the install of the MAgE Agent, the MAgE agent Service Account creates an SCP (Service Connection Point) in the Active Directory domain the Agent Host server is in.  


Cause 1:
The MAgE Agent Service Account does not have enough permissions to create the SCP in Active Directory.

Cause 2:
The MAgE Agent Host and the MAgE Agent Service Account are in different AD Domains. Therefore, the MAgE Agent Service Account cannot find the SCP in it's domain.

Resolution 1:
If the Agent Host and Agent Service Account are in the same domain, ensure the MAgE Agent Service Account has permissions to 'Create' in the System Container. 

This generally can be achieved through adding the Service Account to the Domain Admins group. In some circumstances, you may need to add the Service Account to the BuiltIn\Administrators Group.

Resolution 2:
Option 1:
Change the MAgE Agent to use a Service Account from the same domain as the Agent Host server.

Option 2:
Make a copy of the SCP from the Agent Host Server Domain and create the SCP in the Domain that the Service Account is in and grant Full Control permissions.

Process:

1. Gather the SCP Information from Agent Host Server Domain:
   1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers and connect to the Domain that Agent Host Server is in.
   2. Expand the 'System' container.
   3. Expand the 'Quest Software' container.
   4. Expand the 'Migration Manager' container.
   5. Expand the 'QmmEx' container.
   6. Expand the 'Exchange Migration Project' container.
   7. Right-click on the SCP and select Properties. (The name will be in GUID format)
   8. Note the values of the following attributes:
      • cn
      • keywords
      • serviceBindingInformation
2. Create the SCP in Agent Service Account Domain:
   1. Open ADSI Edit
   2. Connect to Default Naming Context.
   3. Expand Domain.
   4. Expand System.
   5. Right-Click on 'System' and select 'New | Object'
      1. Select Container for Object Class. Click Next.
      2. Enter 'Quest Software' for the cn Value. Click Next.
      3. Click Finish.
   6. Refresh the 'System' Container so you can see the 'Quest Software' Container.
   7. Right-click the 'Quest Software' container. Select 'New | Object'
      1. Select Container for Object Class. Click Next.
      2. Enter 'Migration Manager' for the cn Value. Click Next.
      3. Click Finish.
   8. Right-click on the 'Migration Manager' container and select 'New | Object'
      1. Select Container for Object Class. Click Next.
      2. Enter 'QmmEx' for the cn Value. Click Next.
      3. Click Finish.
   9. Right-click on the 'QmmEx' container and select 'New | Object'
      1. Select Container for Object Class. Click Next.
      2. Enter 'Exchange Migration Project' for cn Value. Click Next.
      3. Click Finish.
   10. Right-click on the 'Exchange Migration Project' container and select 'New | Object'
       1. Select serviceConnectionPoint for Object Class. Click Next.
       2. Enter the GUID value from the other domain, as noted above, for cn Value. Click Next.
       3. Click on the More Attributes button.
          1. Under 'Select a property to view:' select serviceBindingInformation.
             1. Enter the value from the other domain into the Edit Attribute: entry. Click Add.
          2. Under 'Select a property to view:' select keywords.
             1. Enter one of the values from the other domain into the Edit Attribute: line. Click Add.
             2. Enter the second value from the other domain and click Add.
             3. Enter the third value from the other domain and click Add.
             4. Click OK.
       4. Click Finish.
3. Verify Permissions to the newly-created SCP.
   1. Open Active Directory Users and Computers and connect to the Domain that you created the SCP in.
   2. Browse to the newly-created SCP and open the Properties.
   3. Click on the Security tab.
   4. Ensure the Agent Service Account has 'Full Control' permissions. Click OK.
   5. Restart the MAgE agents.
