In the user interface one will notice:
After the switch (automatic or manual) has occurred the status of the mailbox will be changed to "Switched (Sync Pending)". Ensure that the UI is refreshed for the most up to date status.
Mailbox has been switched but Migration Agent for Exchange (MAGE) continues synchronizing the most recent changes that happened after last synchronization but before the mailbox was actually switched.
The final pass occurs during this time ti ensure all mail is successfully copied to the target mailbox. After successful final pass, the mailbox Migration Stage is changed to Completed. Processing of the mailbox is completed, the mailbox will be excluded from the synchronization process, and the agent will copy any data from this mailbox anymore.
Here is an example workflow of what the MAgE agent does during this process:
- MAgE does an autoswitch in one session, and stamps the time of the switch in the project database
- In the next session, it does at least one more sync
- In this same session, MAgE checks the "FinalSyncPeriod" parameter value in the SQL database for the following:
- If its default value of 15 minutes has passed since the switch, it will no longer try to sync any more content in future sessions
- If its default value of 15 minutes has not yet passed since the switch, it will try to sync content one more time in the next session
Final Pass feature is required for cases where AD replication latency may cause new e-mail to still arrive in the source mailbox. The default parameter value is 15 minutes. This value can be changed in the SQL database with MMEX powershell module as described below.
How can I change the Final Pass interval:
1) To start PowerShell with imported MMExPowerShell module, on the console computer run the following from the command line:
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe -NoExit -Command "& {Import-Module 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest Software\Migration Manager\Exchange Data\Tools\MMExPowerShell\MMExPowerShell' }"
Note: If Migration Manager is installed at path other than the default C:\Program Files (x86)\Quest Software\Migration Manager, change the above command accordingly.
After the operation completes, you can run the cmdlet below.
2) To increase the final pass interval to 30 minutes, run
Set-MMExProjectOptions –SyncPeriodAfterSwitch 30
