How to explicitly exclude a user or group from source scope or target scope -
Cause
Sometimes it's necessary to exclude specific users or groups from scope even if their OU was selected to be included in scope. It's possible to select specific users or groups to exclude from scope in this case. -
Resolution
To exclude specific users or groups from scope follow these steps:
1. Right-click on Synchronization and select Properties
2. Select 'Specify Source Scope' (to filter from source to target) or 'Specify Target Scope' (to filter from target to source)
3. Click the 'Set Filter' button.
4. Select the 'Exclude List' tab and click the 'Select' button
5. Browse to the OU(s) which contain the users/groups to be excluded
6. In the right-hand window pane, select which users/groups which need to be excluded and click OK
7. Click OK again and then OK on the Synchronization Properties.
Note: It is required to perform a Full Resynchronization after making this change.
Note: By excluding any users or groups, those users and / or groups will not update membership in Target. If a user is excluded, but groups the user is a member of are not, membership for the user still will not be updated in Target.
