You are migrating site content from SharePoint On-Premise to SharePoint Online. As part of the requirement, you have set up a user mapping configuration to map the users from the NTLM account to the SPO account. Below is an example:
However, you find that some items on the target is now owned or modified by the migration account. That is, the account used to make the connection to SPO from the Content Matrix Console.
There may be multiple reasons for this issue to occur. However, one common cause is that the source user has been removed from the source site collection.
Before being removed from the site collection, below is how the authorship metadata will look like. This is a valid account and will be mapped properly.
After the user has been removed from the site collection, below is how the same fields appear in the Content Matrix Console.
Note that the account is no longer fetched as DOMAIN\login, but rather the display name (Last Name, First Name). Chances are this will not be part of the user mapping file that was configured to preserve the user information.
Below are multiple ways to resolve this issue.
