How to manually assign the required permissions and security groups to the MessageStats Database. (4327514)

How do I manually assign all the service account permissoins to the MessageStats database?

Can the MessageStats Admin and MessageStats Web groups names be changed to go with our naming convention?

Security Groups are needed to assign rights to the database. Either Local or Global Groups can be used. They should be named MessageStats Admin and MessageStats Web but they can be named differently if needed.

***NOTE*** If the MessageStats database resides on a SQL cluster the Groups will have to be created in Active Directory.

1. Launch Computer Management and expand System Tools | Local Users and Groups| Groups to create Local groups or launch Active Directory Users and Computers to create Global groups
2. Create two groups one called MessageStats Admin (for accounts performing a gathering and administering the MessageStats console) and another called MessageStats Web (for accounts running reports)
   
   Note: Make sure the MessageStats service account is added to the MessageStats Admin group
   Note: The ‘Everyone’ group is typically added to the MessageStats Web group

To assign the MessageStats Admin group to the MessageStats database:

1. Launch SQL Management Studio
2. Expand Security | Logins
3. Right click on Logins and choose New Login
4. Click on search and find the MessageStats Admin group
5. Click OK
6. Select Windows Authentication
7. For ‘Default Database’ choose MessageStats from the drop down
8. In the left hand column click on User Mapping
9. For the “Users Mapped to this Login” section put a check mark in the box beside the MessageStats database
10. Under the “Database role Memberships for” section select:
    - Public
    - MessageStats_Admin
    - db_Owner
     
11. Click OK

To assign the MessageStats Web group to the MessageStats database:

1. Launch SQL Management Studio
2. Expand Security | Logins
3. Right click on Logins and choose New Login
4. Click on search and find the MessageStats Web group
5. Click OK
6. Select Windows Authentication
7. For ‘Default Database’ choose MessageStats from the drop down
8. In the left hand column click on User Mapping
9. For the “Users Mapped to this Login” section put a check mark in the box beside the MessageStats database
10. Under the “Database role Memberships for” section select:
    - Public
    - MessageStats_web
     
11. Click OK
