Size of LiteSpeed LogShipping backup is greater than native LogShipping backup -
Description
LiteSpeed Logshipping was first setup and later removed and in place Native LogShipping was implemented. From the size of the native log backup file, it appears to be smaller than LiteSpeed backup file.
Native log backup size: 16 Kb
Litespeed log backup size: 80 Kb
Default options was not changed in Litespeed Log shipping plan. The compression level is 1 and setting the compression level to 11 makes no no major difference in size. -
Resolution
LiteSpeed backup files are currently built with a 64KB header. So backup size about 67-68KB is the theoretical minimum (after including tail XML). These file sizes are considered insignificant because LiteSpeed are designed to perform with much larger datasizes. In the example above, subtracting out the required overhead means the data stored was in the range of about 12KB. So it does not take long before the LiteSpeed headers become insignificant relative to data stored.
