Maintenance Plan is not removing old backup files

If LiteSpeed Maintenance Plan is created with NULL (blank) characters at the end of the LiteSpeed File Format field, the backup file will be created (without the NULL characters) when the xp_slssqlmaint is run, but the files will not be deleted when they have aged and should be removed by the Maintenance Plan.

You can not use nulls as part of a file name when using network shares. When the file is stored locally the LiteSpeed delete works...when stored on a network share it does not...this is a Windows (Microsoft) limitation.
Do not end a file or directory name with a space or a period. Although the underlying file system may support such names, the Windows shell and user interface does not. However, it is acceptable to specify a period as the first character of a name. For example, ".temp".

WORKAROUND:
Edit the LiteSpeed File Format field so that any blank characters (NULLS) are removed.
