actual backup taking several times longer than what the Backup Analyzer said the backup would take. Why is the Backup Analyzer so inaccurate? -
Cause
Possible Cause 1:
Likely you selected options for the backup different from what had been selected in the Backup Analyzer.
For example:AdaptiveCompression='speed'OLRMap='1'And/or the 'Verify' option. The Backup Analyzer does not use that option. We should take that out of the equation as well.
Possible Cause 2:
You are writing the backup out to a different storage location from the one in which you had used during the Backup Analyzer test. If you used a local directory while running the Backup Analyzer but used a remote storage over a slow network and/or sending it to a machine that does slow writes, that would explain the speed difference. -
Resolution
Stick to using the same parameters that you had selected in the Backup Analyzer. And sick to using the same storage location as well.The attached screenshot1.jpg shows where that OLRMap configuration is set. You want to have this option _not_ checked. Having that option checked could add an additional 50% to the backup time.The attached screenshot2.jpg shows where this configuration is set. You want to have it set for the same 'Compression Level' of eg. "4", like what was chosen in the Backup Analyzer. 'Adaptive Compression is different--it will choose to use a compression level dynamically based on throughput seen while the backup is taking place.Write the backup out to the same storage location directory that yo had used when running the Backup Analyzer.
